The 2019 SPIAs will have a total of 19 award categories, with 16 of them being judge voted & 3 being decided by a public vote. This year will also see the introduction of the first individual award, Sports Business Leader of the Year. Below is the full list of categories along with their category descriptions. Judge Voted Categories
1) Best Integrated Sports Marketing Campaign of the Year
This category is open to organizations and/or their marketing agencies that delivered effective integrated sports marketing campaigns. For example: campaigns promoting product launches, new store openings, sports tourism, corporate hospitality, promotions/sales and sports events). Judges will look for evidence of post campaign success demonstrated through quantifiable reach and impact on target audience in terms of brand awareness, market share, increased sales and behavioral change measured against original objectives. Entries are welcome from organizations and or agencies that undertook a sports marketing campaign.
2) Best Use of Social Media in Sport
This category is open to organizations and/or their marketing agencies that delivered effective integrated sports marketing campaigns through social media channels. For example: campaigns promoting product launches, sports events, and event participation). Judges will look for evidence of post campaign success demonstrated through quantifiable reach and impact on target audience in terms of brand awareness, engagement levels and behavioral change measured against original objectives. Entries are welcome from all.
3) Best Use of Public Relations in Sport
This category is open to organizations and/or their PR agencies that delivered effective integrated campaigns. For example: campaigns promoting product launches, new openings, sports tourism, corporate hospitality, promotions/sales and sports events. Judges will look for evidence of accurate assessment and identification of key media, clearly defined campaign targets including ROI and objectives, strong and creative ideas as well as delivery against original objectives and results achieved.
4) Best Sports Digital Platform of the Year
Organizations and companies running sports websites, mobile applications, social platforms, online sports news content, classifieds/e-commerce networks, e-sales of tickets and promotional campaigns of sports events locally, and or regionally.
5) Best Amateur Sport Event of the Year
This category is open to community sporting events involving amateur participants, which take place within the Middle East. Judges will look for evidence of community engagement and achievement of pre-set objectives. For example: participants and spectator numbers, effective publicity and media coverage including social media, organisation and logistics. Entries are welcome from sporting leagues, associations, academies, schools, other educational establishments and charities.
6) Best Youth Development Project of the Year
This category is open to an amateur or professional organization, which implemented a project that has demonstrated a tangible contribution to the development of grass roots youth (aged 3 to 18) participation in sport in the region. Judges will look for social inclusivity and community engagement from the region’s youth. Entries are welcome from companies, community associations, schools and/or independent sport academies and charities.
7) Sports Youth Academy or Organisation of the Year
This category is open to all Youth Sports organizations that delivered sport campaigns or events in terms of efficiency, planning, creativity and sporting value to youth in the region. Judges will look at the role the organization played in ensuring successful youth events/campaigns from development to implementation.
8) Best Sport CSR Initiative of the Year
This category is open to brands, organizations and or communities whom use sport as a platform to promote corporate social responsibility. Judges will look for evidence of community engagement and achievement of pre-set objectives. For example: participants and spectator numbers, effective publicity and media coverage including social media, organization and logistics. Entries are welcome from corporate and non-for-profit organization, sporting leagues, associations, academies, schools, other educational establishments and charities.
9) Best Sports Brand, Retail or Product Activation of the Year
This category is open to organizations and/or their marketing agencies that delivered effective Sports Brand, Retail or Product activations. For example: activations promoting product launches, new store openings, sports tourism, corporate hospitality, promotions/sales and sports events). Judges will look for evidence of post campaign success demonstrated through quantifiable reach and impact on target audience in terms of brand awareness, market share, increased sales and behavioral change measured against original objectives.
10) Best Sponsorship of a Sport, Sports Event or Sports Organisation
This category is open to sponsors that clearly demonstrate a positive business outcome such as enhanced brand awareness, wider client base, and consumer loyalty through sport sponsorship. Judges will look for evidence of pre-set success objectives measured through; pre-and post event brand awareness levels; positive attitudinal/behavioral changes among target audience eg increase subscriber or client base; success of pre and post event marketing and media outreach strategies measured through media coverage, social media usage; impact of corporate hospitality and community engagement. Entries are welcome from brands, organizations and or government entities that sponsored a professional or amateur event in the region.
11) Best Sport & Recreation Facility of the Year
This category is open to venues that offer the very best in facilities, customer service, community engagement as well as contributing to the development of sport and a healthier lifestyle in the country or wider region. Judges will look for evidence of facilities in line with clientele expectation measured through effective marketing strategy, membership recruitment and retention as well as community engagement. Entries are welcome from all organizations that are licensed as a sports venue/facility in the region.
12) Best Indoor Sport & leisure Offering
This category is open to all sporting facilities, which contain indoor platforms that offer sport & leisure. Entries may include gyms, spas, leisure clubs, & sports clubs. Judges will look for evidence of efficiently engaging with consumers, clearly showing value, differentiating their offering from competitors, and activities offered. All offerings must be within the Middle East region.
13) Best Media Agency in Sports
This category is open to agencies that delivered sport campaigns within the Middle East region. Judges will look at the role the agency played in ensuring successful campaigns from development to implementation. Judges will also score the campaigns efficiency, planning, creativity and sporting value to the region.
14) Best Sports Organiser of the Year
This category is open to professional organizations that delivered major sport campaigns, events, and/or activations throughout the 2018 calendar year. Judges will look at the role the organization played in ensuring success from development to implementation. Judges will also look for sustained success among all projects executed. Success will be measured through client satisfaction, financial figures, marketing reach, operational excellence and developing the region as a sports hub.
15) Sports Event Supplier of the Year
This category is open to all companies, which have supplied goods or services to a sporting event/s that have taken place within the Middle East region. Judges will reward companies, which have played an integral part to the success of the event. Important factors include the relationship built with the event organizer, quality of goods, & efficiency of service.
16) Sports Business Leader of the Year
This category is open to all individuals who have worked within the Sporting Industry and have showed excellence within their field. Judges will look for evidence of the individual’s success across the calendar year of 2018. Important factors will include client management, decision-making, management skills, & quantifiable results. The individual must show his/her ability to work harmoniously with a team whilst standing out as an individual.
Public Voted Categories
17) Best Live Experience at a Professional Sports Event
This category is open to internationally accredited sporting events involving professional athletes that delivered a memorable experience for competitors and spectators locally, regionally and internationally while generating valuable exposure for the host city and wider region. A public vote will decide the categories winners. Important factors to consider for the public are audience engagement, effective pre-and post event marketing, and exemplary levels of organization and logistics.
18) Sports F&B Venue of the Year
This category is open to all food & beverage venues within the Middle East region that show sporting events throughout the calendar year. A public vote will decide the categories winners. Important factors to consider for the public are quality of food, range of sporting events shown, accessibility to venue, and level of service.
19) Sports Brand of the Year
This category is open to all brands, with a presence in the Middle Eastern market, that sell sports products/services. Sports products/services may be the brands primary focus or simply an arm of the company. The winner of this category will be fully determined by a public vote.

- Once nominations close on the 24th March, up to a maximum of 10 nominees from each category will be shortlisted by the dedicated panel of judges, or public votes.
- All shortlisted finalists will be announced to the press and uploaded to the dedicated SPIA Awards website www.spia.ae
- The SPIA Awards Judges will make the final decision on the category winners based on the highest scores within each category.
- The final winners will be decided by the judges’ scores
- Winners will be announced at the Awards Gala Dinner on Wednesday 1st May.
Please note the three categories ‘Best Live Experience at a Professional Event’, ‘Sports F&B Venue of the Year’ & ‘Sports Brand of the Year’ shall be completely decided by a public vote.
Are the awards open for entry to companies/clubs/individuals outside of the UAE?
Yes, All entries within the Middle East and North Africa will be accepted.
How will I know if I am selected as a shortlist finalist?
You will be contacted. The timeline for this is explained above.
Can I submit new information to my application once I have entered?
No, as judges may have already reviewed your application.
Can I enter more than one category?
Yes, as long as you meet the criteria for each category you are entering. You will need to complete a separate entry form, and submit a separate set of creative evidence for each category you enter.
What is the eligibility period for SPIA 2019 entries?
All campaigns and/or events must take place between January 1st 2018 and December 31st 2018.

Must the entry/entries be in English?
Do I have to be an entrant or finalist to attend the Awards gala evening?
Every and anyone is welcome! In fact most attendees are going to see who will win, network with their industry peers and have a good time.
Who are the judges and how were they selected?
The judging panel for all categories is made up of industry expert’s chosen for their skills and experience within the Middle East Sports industry. They will not be revealed until the evening of the Awards. No members of the Sport 360 team are on the judging panel or part of the judging process.
How are the entries judged?
The judging process follows a rigorous process including mystery shopping, and video assessments. To ensure absolute transparency and integrity there will be an independent observer from Deloitte throughout the judging responsible for the handling and securing of all written materials relating to the results, for compiling the score reports and certifying to the accuracy of the scores within the report.
All judges sign a confidentiality agreement. i.e. Any information (including financial figures) disclosed to them during the judging process remains completely confidential.
Will I get feedback on my application?
Whilst individual written feedback is not possible, if the judging panel feels there are themes that can be highlighted to all entrants this will be communicated to them.
Can I change or withdraw my entry after it has been submitted?
I would like to submit an entry but the data corroborating its success is highly confidential. What can I do?
Security and confidentiality are of paramount importance to the SPIA Awards. All data and entry materials will be treated with the utmost confidentiality by the judges and management. All entries are stored in a secure place away from non-authorized personnel and shred after the Gala evening. Judges and those present throughout the judging are required to sign a Non Disclosure Agreement.
Medical support and emergency medical response will be coordinated by our Official Medical Partner – National Ambulance.
Though it’s not a treatment center, the medical staff will assess each situation and assist in obtaining appropriate treatment for the participant. Emergency medical vehicles will also be present near the start area.
If you need medical assistance while on the course, or see someone who does, please inform a medical staff or race official.
